"The show was executive produced by James L. Brooks, who is known for his strong writing abilities. Before "Taxi," he produced several series, including "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." After "Taxi," he continued to produce series, including the long-running hit "The Simpsons." He also directed and wrote the hit film "As Good as it Gets." Glen and Les Charles also produced the series before creating and developing "Cheers." Most of the show's stars have gone on to successful careers, including Christopher Lloyd ("Back to the Future"), Tony Danza ("Who's the Boss") and Danny DeVito ("Get Shorty"), who has become a popular director/producer. "Taxi" premiered on ABC in 1978, and moved to NBC in 1982, where it aired until it was canceled in July, 1983."
